I'm writing this post from the future because it was important for me to chronicle this month's version of my "Wavy 100" Chill Vibes playlist that I curate (nearly) every month for a couple of years now. I'd been meaning to capture this list on a monthly basis, locking in the vibes in a historical fashion so I can look back and be like "Aaaah shiiiiet... I remember this song!" ...and another month ALMOST passed again without writing down my July list! We can't have that...

So what is "Wavy 100"? Well, first off it's probably like the 4th or 5th different name the playlist has had over the time I was curating it... starting as something private and having a couple hundred songs of some of my favorite songs at the time... until eventually I realized it had a certain vibe to it: mostly hiphop and R&B songs, adding in some other FLAVORS as long as it made sense and matched the overall mood and tempo of the songs around it. Eclectic sounds including "Latin" (Salsa, Reggaeton, etc.), dance/E.D.M., oldies, rock, disco, even a country jam gets put in there every once in a while...

Ready to take a listen? Click here to vibe and follow the playlist!

Anyway, it's time for a new month, but without further ado... here is the July 2022 list!

Here is a great description of the project (from the music video YouTube description):

Noa James names the nutrients necessary to nurture a lasting romance in his latest visual: “Rose“. The track, which features Cee Nario and is produced by Aye Brook, was released in July 2020. In the video, shot, edited, and directed by Victor Hernandez: the artist is a gardener? A scientist? God? James is WHATEVER encouraging energy his flower needs to burst through the muck of life and rise into her full and rightful position!

We see godly Noa press his finger into the soil to initiate life, we see scientist Noa mix and measure the perfect concoction of nutrients, and finally we see the gardener, prune the leaves away to reveal his glowing, curious, and purposed “Rose“, played by Jessica Bruny.

Add that multi-layered and metaphorical plot to some trippy, Alice in Wonderlandesque visuals—like three Cee Nario heads sprouted from plant pots and harmonizing with each other—to the equally meticulous lyrics and surprising vocal delivery (NOA SINGS!), and you have a three-minute, twelve-second testament to James’ own nurturing development as an artist.
“Rose” is available on all streaming platforms and accompanying merchandise can be found at bemajestic.store.

🗣💥MAAAAN 🙊F*€% DEM HATERS❗️LOL!! OH BABY 💙🙌🏽😭 WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!! 👏🏽 Thank you DODGERS for pulling through! 32 MUTHAF%€£N YEARS and we FINALLY DID IT! 💯🙌🏽🏆 This feels so surreal because I know it’s just sports but the Dodgers are such a huge part of LA culture and growing up here in the 80s and 90s and the relationship I have with my parents, my family, a lot of my friends… man… especially my mom. My earliest memories of the Dodgers are those warm summer days playing outside 4-5 years old, coming in as it got deeper in the afternoon to watch the games with my mom as she cleaned around the house or made dinner. Memories of getting my very first shiny Dodgers jacket just like Fernando Valenzuela, the Bulldog, like Piazza and “Mondi” like Vin Scully would call em. Memories of the first time my dad took me to Dodger Stadium on my day off to buy tickets at the box office at the upper deck, tour the empty stadium, see the seats where the scout with the big cigar and fedora with the radar gun behind the plate. I had a blessed upbringing and sports: specifically boxing, the Lakers, and to an even larger degree, the Dodgers… is something I will always cherish and tie to those memories. 🌊🌊🌊 All the years of losing in the postseason to the Braves in the 90s, the Broxton and Gagne heartbreaks, losing Piazza, the Kevin Brown contract, having 5 consecutive rookies of the year: Karros, Piazza, Nomo, Mondesi, Hollandsworth, and letting the talent go to waste… the Fox ownership and McCourt fiascos… the never giving Kershaw any run support… for all of that and more!!! WE ARE FINALLY THE CHAMPIONS!! THANK YOU THANK YOU I LOVE LA!!! 💙🏆

📸 Original photo by R.
🎈🙏🏽🐍 Happy Birthday Kobe! 🏆🏀👨👧

Kobe we love and miss you dearly 🙏🏽😭 Welp… started my day off shedding some tears… still makes me sad to this day that the man we so highly regarded as a basketball legend, an adopted son of Los Angeles, a dedicated girl-dad, and a global icon was taken from his family and the world in such a devastating way, with his daughter a mini-me in tow. Still praying for the repose if the soul of all those lost that day, and all the lives we lose everyday.

Kobe was larger than life, and the IDEA of KOBE and the BLACK MAMBA was even bigger. …What it means to have the heart of a champion, the relentless work ethic it takes to be the BEST at what you do, to channel that inner DAWG to overcome your opponents (or your personal demons), to lead and push the ones you love to be THEIR best…and post-career: dominating a completely different field (film: see OSCAR-winner)… and being an awesome example of mentorship and advocacy (being a girl-dad and a champion for women’s basketball/athletics)… and a symbol of greatness for the rest of the world to see… All of this and more is and was Kobe Bryant, el Vino, the Black Mamba… the GOAT. We love you, we miss you..

…. and please be a guardian angel and guide the LAKERS to their 17th championship!!! 😆🙏🏽🏆PLEEEEEASE!
Cee Nariotag:theceenario.com,2005:Post/63975382020-07-30T11:19:33-07:002020-11-19T19:45:48-08:00Buenos Aires 🇦🇷Street Art

Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷had some of the coolest street art I’ve seen in person. This cool "puerquito" art 🐷🎨 is very relevant for this area, as behind my amazing photographer, is the bombest choripan and happiness provider: Chori. Although with the current social climate, the street art is probably referring to another type of puerco if ya catch my drift. I definitely need to make another trip to pick some choripanes up.
Cee Nario was recently interviewed by VoyageLA blog & magazine. Read on to see how it all went down:

VoyageLA: So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.

Cee Nario: I’m an Ecuadorian-Mexican-American singer-songwriter, performer and part-time comedian from the San Gabriel Valley (626)—born in West Covina, raised in La Puente and Baldwin Park. I gravitated toward music & entertaining as a kid, playing old hand-me-down Beatles, Disney, and Cepillín records while studying their written music and lyrics around 6 or 7 years old, playing along with a little color-coded keyboard. When I was 4, my parents gave me one of my favorite Christmas presents ever: a microphone/speaker set with light-up pedals the base for effects. I sung Feliz Navidad endlessly. My big sister used to record me singing old Spanish songs, and I would study her living room performances as she would sing SWV hits and make her own choreography while I played cameraman. I’d watch my brother mix and scratch on the turntables in the garage for hours and hours. I’d also sneak into his room to play his cherished guitars and borrow his De La Soul album. I wouldn’t know it till later, but the music & dance thing was in the blood: my mom, a former ballet dancer, and my dad was in drumline as a young boy in Ecuador. I heard my uncle Oscar was the most musically inclined, a talented drummer and musician who I never got to see in his full greatness before he passed.

My parents tried to get me to learn piano on our old stand-up organ in the living room, but I’d get bored and act out scenes from movies and practice kung-fu moves like Bruce Lee instead. Aside from schoolwork, I became engulfed in martial arts and sports—but I never really scratched the musical itch …sadly we didn’t have a music program. In high school, the first class I signed up for was Band. I was naive and thought I’d actually learn to play a drum set and be a rockstar, but instead I learned to march like a crab, lugging around a bass drum with a harness digging into my shoulder-blades (LOL). At least we got to hang out and go on trips with the drill team to Hawaii…so it was all good.

From elementary school to this point, I was always singing—just undercover. I’d imitate actors, singers, comedians (who were imitating singers themselves), sounds—everything from beatboxing, to robotic sounds you’d hear in 80s music, and the beautiful talk box vocals made famous by Zapp & Roger. Junior year, I started hanging with elementary school friends again who’d created this pseudo-boy-band group, and I never knew if they were serious or just liked to dress “GQ” for the chicks. As I started to hang out with them more, it turned out to be both and… since it gave me an excuse to sing for real, I joined in. With our bandleader Rex on the keys giving us instruction, we learned the harmonies of the most popular pop and R&B songs of the late 90s and early 2000s, so we could sing them a cappella in public (usually when a bunch of girls were around… or at least in earshot). It was funny because, to contrast, one of my best friends, Jo Well, was a part of that group, yet the two of us and a whole other group of friends were all into the hip hop scene. There wasn’t a dance circle or freestyle cipher we weren’t rapping and beatboxing in at parties (or “clubs“), and it became an obsession so I’d practice for hours in my room—singing too.

College (my first time) was a blur, but I had a hell of a time balancing engineering classes, working 2-3 jobs, and fraternity life. I’d still sing and freestyle at parties, but that was about it. By this point I figured anyone that was ever going to make it as a successful artist (aka Michael Jackson) has been groomed into the life at a young age & was classically trained, so I have no business even trying now… obviously that was dumb… but eventually I learned to loosen those unrealistic standards. After a few years apart, I started hanging out again with Jo Well, who’d helped form The Antidotes, a dope ‘underground’ hip hop crew with crossover appeal. I’d be at all their shows, like an honorary member—doing security, casting for music videos, being a roadie. I even thought, maybe I can manage these guys! I really wanted to create with them, but thought it’d be weird, so I’d settle for being a suit… until, eventually, I was in the studio with them all the time, helping write and record songs. After going through a few early names including K-Matix, I settled on Cee Nario (with the help of crew member & producer Mark Fader) which is derived from my mom calling me ‘canario’ (Spanish for canary) since I was little, and started making my own songs on Mark’s beats.

The group was discovered on MySpace by a Japanese record label (GoonTrax), released two LPs (L.A. Lights and Beat the Classics), plus several compilation albums and side projects. Around this time, I started collaborating with artists outside the crew, doing hooks for the homie David May (fka Logic—before we all knew the famous guy that now uses that name) from the 909 and Hawdwerk aka Jamil from down the street in the 626. I started working with Jo Well on some ghostwriting gigs and even got to write for a platinum-selling Grammy Award winner via a major label. With some of the guys from The Antidotes, I formed a spinoff called the Jalapeno Brothers, which was a very fun and interesting experience. We were a very eclectic combination, fusing hip hop with Latin music and EDM before it was ‘a thing’. We made a song about voting and made TV appearances on Telemundo & Mundo Fox along with a college tour.

After the group disbanded, I felt it was time to explore my own sound and started work on my first ‘solo’ project with amazing friend and producer, Ivan Pacheco aka Instigate, and also collaborated with New Zealand-based producer SoulChef on the song for my first video, “Subway.” I established my own publishing & record company, Guayacali Music, through which I released my 6-song EP “Stay Wavy,” a collection of chill & upbeat jams with smooth vocals and some hard-hitting raps. I’ve shared the stage with notable hiphop acts like Rapsody, Blu & Exile, The Pharcyde, and Dom Kennedy, and have now returned to the studio to work on my full-length album, featuring more production from Instigate, Dennis Alvarez, myself, and more. I’ll be releasing my next single “Superficial” early this summer and have a few more in the chamber for later this year. I’m definitely blessed to have experienced so much so far, but know that this is just the tip of the iceberg and have much more work and fun experiences ahead of me...

THE VIDEO: "Subway" the music video takes us on a journey with our main character, Syama, as she tries to get through the hectic day of a hard working woman, maneuvering all over southern California. Between trying to meet deadlines at work, dealing with an unreasonable boss, and just trying to live her life, Syama hits a breaking point when she gets a text about her running late and that she has now been let go from her job. Our hero of the story, R&B/Rap singer Cee Nario, comes to the rescue to pick Syama back up off of her feet and offer her a ticket to get back on the train... this time to the destination of her choice. The couple hits it off and spends the afternoon at the beach, showing us that no matter how bad life can beat us down from time to time, we can still prevail. And sometimes... we can meet someone new in the process ;)

THE SONG: Fusing a new hiphop sound with soul of the 70s & the smooth groove of 90s slow jams, Cee Nario brings a new flavor to the R&B scene with soothing vocals over a hot SoulChef ambient-soul instrumental canvas that will have you either vibing in the club, bumping it in your car, or sitting back and relaxing as it pumps through your home speakers!

Originally produced, written, and recorded during the summer of 2010, "Subway" laid dormant among the musical archives of both singer Cee Nario and producer SoulChef. They continued working together on and off through the years as they focused on their own individual and group projects, but in late 2017, Cee Nario began performing the "new" song for the first time at live shows. After receiving an overwhelmingly positive response, Cee Nario decided it was time to dust off the original song, remaster the track, and plan a music video. With SoulChef on board, the duo decided to independently release their first official single together in Spring 2018 for the masses to enjoy.

I’ve lost family members and others close to me before, and the grief I felt was always understandable. How could it not be? These are people I KNEW. And don’t get it twisted, we mourn for those close to us in a different way, and the loss of a public figure doesn’t compare…

BUT... I really felt that those of us who feel deeply affected by Kobe’s death, feel how we feel because we KNEW Kobe represented: his example to always give it your all, to want MORE out of yourself, and strive to be the BEST you can truly be... better than you even realized you could be! It just so happens, basketball was that THING for most of his life. When he left the game, he applied the same mentality to his new endeavors in media, in coaching his girls, and being the best man he could be for his family.

So it doesn’t matter if you’re a baller, plumber, teacher, salesperson, musician, assembly line packer, driver, whatever! Mamba mentality is the idea that you will never give up on yourself and those who rely on you, that you’ll always try to squeeze 100% effort out of what you do, that you’ll always be inquisitive and hungry for knowledge, that you’ll always try to improve.

We love and miss you Kobe! Thank you for what you gave me, to the game, and to the world. May God reset the souls of all those who were lost in the crash and watch over us all. MAMBA FOREVER! May this all be a lesson to us all to live a life we love and are proud of, to truly love the people we care about, and give people their flowers while they’re still here.
People ask me on a daily basis because they say I'm always smiling: “How are you so happy?!” The answer is I HAVE NO IDEA! I mean..I definitely feel like I've had a pretty blessed life. Sure: just like everyone else, I have ups and the downs... situations and other people can be crappy and make you want to be down on yourself, but I've been blessed with an optimistic outlook. It definitely sucks sometimes because you can get let down or people will try to take advantage of your positive outlook. But overall, I believe it's worth it! I'd rather think the best of others and have them let me down than the other extreme of believing everyone is out to get you and everyone is bad and living a sour and negative life. I guess overall: I’m just THANKFUL!
